The countdown is on to one of the biggest events on the national sporting calendar, with Noosa readying to embrace athletes and spectators alike for the annual Noosa Triathlon from November 1-5.

This year marks a special occasion for the five-day festival, with organisers celebrating 35 years of what has come to be known as the largest triathlon event in the globe.

And this home-grown triathlon isn’t just an event for the national and global sporting elite. It’s is a Multi Sport Festival celebrating fitness, health and fun, against the idyllic backdrop of picturesque Noosa.

So let’s lace up our running shoes and take a quick spin around the event that is the Noosa Triathlon.

The race

Featuring a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run, the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival attracts 8500 triathlon competitors for the Sunday event and 12,000 participants across the five-day festival. It’s classed as one of Australia’s premier sporting events, commanding international interest along with some of the biggest names in the triathlon sphere.

Participants can enter as individuals or in teams, but this has been the stomping ground for current and up -coming athletes since 1982.

And there’s far more to this sporting celebration than the flagship triathlon. Over the course of the festival there are a host of other events to enjoy for people of all ages.

These include a kids-only triathlon, a Breakfast Fun Run, golf tournament, ocean swim, and both men’s and women’s cycling to name just a few.

The ethos

The main event may boast some of some of the biggest names in sport and be backed by Ironman, but it’s a celebration that attracts far more than the sporting elite.

The entire event is dedicated to fitness, fun and healthy living, while showcasing the spectacular region of Noosa. Live entertainment, sun-filled days, stellar surf and superb sportsmanship are the order of every day throughout the festival.

Getting involved

So popular is this annual fixture on the triathlon calendar that individual race entries to this 35th anniversary event sold out in 48 hours, but there’s still a host of ways for people to get involved.

These include:

  • A Breakfast Fun Run
  • Run Swim Run event
  • The Superkidz and Special Triathlon on Saturday morning.
  • The Subaru Noosa Australian Open Criterium, and Asics Noosa Bolt on Saturday afternoon.
  • Legends Triathlon, attracting a premium field of sporting legends

Best spectator spots

There are plenty of vantage points to enjoy all the action, adrenaline and endurance of the triathlon.

You can catch the swim leg from the Lions Park at Noosa Heads, take in cycling from Noosa Parade, through Tewantin and beyond along Noosa-Cooroy Road. Meanwhile, the run traverses Noosa Parade and around to Weyba Road, and there will be road closures at varying times.

The Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival is one of the ultimate ways to experience the health-conscious, outdoor-loving lifestyle for which Noosa is renowned. It’s the opportunity to witness the true sporting elite, take part in a family-friendly event, or revel in the region’s beautiful surrounds.
