While famous for her tourism, community is at the heart of the Noosa area, and across the region communities light up, decorate and celebrate the Christmas feel. There’s giant Christmas trees, sparkling street lighting, and many businesses and households also embrace the action.

The best streets for Christmas lighting are highlighted in local papers, but the townships of Cooroy, Noosa, and Noosa Junction all embrace the Christmas feel.

Throughout December, Carols are a regular fixture on every community calendar across the Noosa Shire. For those visiting the region and staying in Noosa, the Carols on the River on December 17 are the Christmas event not to be missed.

Held on the Noosa River in the Lions Park adjacent to the Sailing Club, Carols on the River is a family-friendly event featuring the finest live entertainment and food stalls, all enjoyed as a spectacular sunset paints the river in ever-deepening hues.

Carols on the River will be held on Sunday, December 17, from 7pm.

Noosa Waters Christmas Boat Flotilla

Noosa revels in her waterfront and the annual Noosa Waters Christmas Boat Flotilla embraces it in all its glory.

Held on Friday, December 22, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the community event. For those unfamiliar, the Flotilla sees the area’s boats decked out in all their Christmas glory, offering a passing parade of the waterfront variety.

The best vantage points include the parks and foreshores of Noosa Waters, and this is a family-friendly evening to foster the Christmas spirit.

Insider’s tip: Pack a picnic dinner and secure your spot early. The Flotilla starts at Saltwater Avenue, at 7pm, winds its way through the waterways of the Noosa Waters, and concludes at the end of Noosa Quay.


Christmas markets

Whether you seek a last-minute gift or a festive Christmas ambience there are a host of Christmas markets for locals and visitors to enjoy.

The renowned Eumundi Markets add extra sessions to their weekly Wednesday and Saturday schedule, with twilight markets held on Friday evenings throughout December. Featuring live music, light shows, street food and even a visit from Santa, these twilight markets add that magical feel to the festive season.

Meanwhile, Noosa Junction hosts its twilight Christmas markets on Friday, December 15, and Peregian Beach offers a chilled-out Sunday market on December 15. All feature authentic artisan wares, live entertainment, fabulous street food and a laidback feel.
