See Noosa by Bike – Take the scenic route

Whether you’re a scenic style cyclist or a mountain bike maverick, Noosa is pure paradise when it comes to two-wheel pursuits.

In fact the region boasts some of Australia’s top cycling events that see Lycra lovers flock to this north coast paradise each year to take part in a host of premium competitions. Why? Well it’s all about the bountiful bevy of beautiful scenery and mixed terrain.

But if a leisurely ride is more to your liking, then Noosa is no novice at taking the scenic route. She’s more than willing to dial down the adrenaline and serve up some truly casual two-wheel action.

Here are some of the best cycling routes available to take in all the sun-filled glory of Noosa and surrounds.

A river retreat

The Noosa River is the social lifeblood of this region, attracting locals and visitors alike for morning strolls, sparkling sunsets and champagne cruises. And perhaps one of the most effective ways to take in its beauty is from the comfort of a bike.

For cyclists the river owes much of its popularity to flat terrain and smooth paths that allow you to experience all the glory, ambience and even a little history of the region in one easy pedalling swoop.

Hastings Street haven

Few places are as iconic as Noosa’s bustling Hastings Street, and even this haven is accessible by bike. Skip the traffic and set out from Noosaville to cross canals and observe the sights before entering Hastings Street proper.

Then it’s a choice of left or ride to revel in the full beauty of the beaches in every direction. Left will see you head to the Noosa Spit, via the enchanting Noosa Woods. Or go right and witness the spectacular scenery along a coast road that takes you directly to the entrance of the acclaimed National Park.

Beach beauty

Did we mention Noosa lays out the welcome mat for cyclists? Well few routes are quite so spectacular as cycling along the coast and taking in the bountiful and beautiful beaches.

Start at Noosa Junction and head south to cover some seriously rewarding coastal ground all the way to Peregian Beach. Oh and if you need to refuel, pause to enjoy a well-earned breakfast, lunch or coffee at simply stunning Sunshine Beach.

Mangroves and macchiatos

A major feature of the Noosa region is its seemingly endless waterways, and Weyba Creek is another great destination for cyclists.

Set off from Gympie Terrace and enjoy the wide shady path that takes you through Noosaville to the Sunday Farmers Markets or to a bevy of popular cafes before looping back to the river.

 Quick tips

Cyclists can legally ride on all paths in the Noosa region unless they’re otherwise signed. Just remember to keep left, warn pedestrians you intend to pass, and always overtake on the right.
