With a multi-cultural palate, and commitment to locally-sourced produce, Noosa features an enviable reputation when it comes to all things cuisine.

It’s a destination where fine dining, coffee haunts and casual takeaways are represented in equal measure, offering a smorgasbord of options for dining out any day or night of the week.

While some of these venues are renowned nationally others are local treasures. So, let’s pull back the veil on some of the region’s hidden gems with the ultimate tips and insight on how to eat like a local in Noosa.

Dinner for Two

Whether it’s beachside, a Thai-style garden or cuisine that’s second to none, Noosa has an array of restaurants with an intimate, upscale ambience.

Noosa Main Beach is home to some of the most acclaimed, including Sails and Bistro C. Both sit only metres from the sand, offering the perfect vantage point of the ocean and Noosa’s twinkling lights.

In the heart of Hastings Street you’ll find Rococo Noosa, a go-to for live music and award-winning contemporary cuisine.

Further down the river is the dining precinct of Quamby Place where a series of local restauranteurs have carved out a culinary niche. Here you’ll find multiple award- winning restaurants, all serving up specialties to whet the appetite.

The riverside ambience lends itself to romance, while at the helm of each establishment are recognised and highly acclaimed chefs.

For those seeking a truly unique dining experience, dining adventure awaits a little farther afield, at the nationally renowned institution that is the Spirit House. Heralded as one of Australia’s “best dining experiences”, the Spirit House is located in Yandina and more than lives up to its reputation.

The restaurant features stunning contemporary Thai cuisine, but arguably it’s the ambience that truly steals the show. The establishment is set in lush tropical surrounds, complete with a tropical pond and transforms into a magical wonderland that will take your breath away.

Family Favourites

Despite its upmarket reputation, Noosa more than willingly accommodates those in search of a casual meal. From surf clubs with spectacular views to unique hinterland restaurants, a bevvy of local haunts sees diners spoiled for choice.

Family-friendly surf clubs of note include Noosa and Sunshine Beach where the views are spectacular and the food suits every palate. Weekend breakfasts are a highlight along with family-friendly ambience.

For a little Noosa tradition and an endless menu of seafood, Maisie’s at Gympie Terrace is a favoured local haunt. Here, the history of Noosa is revealed in comfortable surrounds that suit a lunch or dinner in search of serious comfort food.

Meanwhile, the hinterland haven of Eumundi also serves up some unique treats. For a pub meal in an eclectic beer garden that comes complete with child-friendly facilities, try the recently revamped Imperial Hotel or for an eclectic experience and some truly fine cuisine, lunch or dinner at the Bohemian Bungalow is definitely worth a taste.

If you’re looking for a host of options in one convenient local place, Noosa Marina offers access to affordable fish and chips, pizza, steak and Australian cuisine in one easily accessible precinct, that’s situated right on the water.

Coffee Haunts

Great coffee is a major passion of Noosa locals, and in recent years a host of haunts have sprung up to cater to the caffeine craving. Among the best are Padre Coffee at Noosaville, where lovers of all things caffeine can indulge in the full roasting process, and Costa Noosa at Sunshine Beach where the blend is local and the day starts early.

Meanwhile, Belmondos on Rene Street at Noosaville not only serves up great coffee but affords coffee lovers the opportunity to peruse some of the finest locally sourced produce, meat and organic items available.

It would be remiss to leave Tewantin out of the mix, with some seriously good coffee attracting an ardent following in this not-to-be-missed Noosa town. A few years ago Zabe opened, delivering great coffee, an eclectic vibe and arguably a new lease of life to the main street.

Market Fare

With a passion for fresh produce, Noosa just loves its local markets. And, if you’re looking to seriously eat like a local, there’s some bargains and great fare to be had.

Standout produce and food markets include the Eumundi Markets, which serves up a vast variety of street food each Wednesday and Saturday, and the Noosa Farmers Markets held at the AFL grounds on Weyba Road every Sunday.
